About Us
The Yukon T1D Support Network found its origin in the struggle to access life-sustaining medication, including insulin and continuous glucose monitors (CGM). After years of paying out-of-pocket for insulin and CGMs, we coordinated our efforts to form a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the landscape of Type 1 diabetes support and management within the Yukon Territory. Founded in 2017, the Yukon T1D Support Network advocated hard to change coverage, the result being the Yukon becoming the first jurisdiction in Canada and one of the first in the world to provide CGM coverage for Yukon residents living with Type 1 diabetes.
As anyone living with Type 1 diabetes knows, access to responsive, timely, and individualized care is essential. We continue to advocate for all Yukon persons living with T1D and we do so by working with Yukon Government in collaborative effort to shift how support is provided. As part of these efforts, the Yukon T1D Support Network’s main goal is to change the regulatory and policy landscape in which health care is contemplated and acted upon.

Our Goal
The Yukon T1D Support Network’s main goal is to see policies and legislation that reflect the lived reality of persons living with Type 1 diabetes in the territory. This means advocating ‘upstream’ for the changes that will influence the capacity of each person to successfully manage their disease.
