Two years ago today, the world lost the kindhearted and radiant Rebecca Pollard. Rebecca lived with Type 1 diabetes for less than one year, and in that short time frame, she helped create a powerful peer support and educational system for youth with T1D. Camp Becca was established not as a result of her passing, but as the continuation of her efforts to ensure that youth with Type 1 diabetes are always heard, can always access necessary support, and will always be recognized for the full and engaged individuals that they are.
Today, though saddened in our memories of losing our forever-loved Rebecca, we are tremendously joyed to know that the youth-focused platform she kindled is finding its flame. Thanks to Yukon Energy’s five-year Camp Becca agreement, we now can rest easier knowing that the immersive educational camp for youth is secured through 2025. Yukon Energy receives many deserving requests through their community support programs, and we are humbled to know that we count ourselves among all of these worthwhile endeavors. We love each and every one of you, as Rebecca did.
Her legacy carries on, and the Yukon T1D Support Network will always uphold her desire to see youth who struggle with this disease are able to access the supports they need when they need them. Thank you, Yukon Energy. Thank you, Becs.
