We are pleased to announce the 2023 recipient of the Rebecca Pollard Legacy Grant!

Maureen McGinty is in the Practical Nurse program at Yukon University. From Pelly Crossing, Maureen loves to spend her free days in her traditional territory of Selkirk First Nation, engaging in activities such as camping, hiking, and the joy that comes from autumn harvest! She also uses her Dene games skills to help teach Pelly youth about the joys that come with staying active, engaged, and immersed in cultural activities.

Maureen’s goals as a nurse are focused on home care, where she hopes she can provide support to her community. Having a close relation living with Type 1 diabetes, Maureen has seen first-hand how important it is to have person-centered care and to meet people where they are at. This is important work!

We are so thrilled to see Maureen passionate about merging her traditional knowledge with her newfound nursing skills. You’re going to do great things, Maureen!

The Yukon T1D Support Network and Shawn and Kelly Ewin Pollard would like to thank Cobalt Construction and Mercer Contracting for their contribution to the Rebecca Pollard Legacy Grant. You are so wonderful!
