The Yukon does not currently have territorial standards governing the Department of Education’s support for students with Type 1 Diabetes in Yukon. In effort to amend this gap in policy, The Yukon T1D Support Network is establishing the T1D in Yukon K-12 Community Advisory Committee. The Committee, representing a broad cross-section of T1D experiences in school settings across the territory, will advise the Network on policy recommendations to be brought forward to Yukon Government. If Yukon Government should request guidance or feedback on pertinent K-12 policy issues, the Advisory Committee is expected to facilitate information sharing with Yukon Government.
This Committee is being established to protect the health and wellbeing of school children living with Type 1 Diabetes in the Yukon. As part of this work, the Committee will construct positive relationships with other parents of children with T1D and will be engaged in promoting public awareness about T1D. Committee members will receive a small stipend for their efforts.
