I trust you are doing well on yet another rainy day in Whitehorse!

Our organization has recently found out that Continuous Glucose Monitors are not going to be funded through Insured Health, and rumblings in the street say that the parameters are likely to be coverage up to the cost of a flash monitor, with the remainder to be paid by the individual. This doesn’t work on many levels, none of which would likely concern the Minister of Economic Development.

What may concern you, however, is what we have been arguing all along – continuous glucose monitors greatly aid in the economic prosperity of working individuals with Type 1 diabetes. We have put together a very modest proposal that would see Economic Development invest in the employment capacities of T1D workers through CGM provisions. The ask is relatively small – a three-year agreement is $64,584 and we are not seeking any form of administration dollars.

I have reviewed REDF and believe that the fund’s focus on planning and process establishment would disqualify this from its portfolio. Would you be able to see if there is a suitable fit within your department?

Many thanks,

Marney Paradis
